Flooding Photos from Blackhawk Island

For those of you seeing the news and pictures about floods in Jefferson County Wisconsin, they tell part of the story. Black Hawk Island has been hit harder than ever. The record was in 1929 and we are more than one foot over that record. The Niedecker cottage and cabin have plenty of water inside. The renovations we did last summer and fall will help the exteriors withstand the waters. Much of the interior work will be severely damaged. Repairs will begin when the water recedes. Black Hawk Island is everything Lorine describes in her poetry. . . ."Fish, foul, flood, water lily mud, My life. . ."

Here are some photos of Lorine's cabin and the cottage taken at the height of the flood. Click on each photo to enlarge it.
